Everybody's Talking About It: A New Time Magazine Poll Finds That 24% of the Country Believes Obama Is a Muslim.

You want a succinct reaction for once? OK: The Time poll just goes to show that at least 24% of the people in the country are idiots. Now, that does not make me a liberal democrat. The liberal democrat believes that most of the people in the country are idiots. [How's that for quick and to-the-point?]

  1. The poll does not bother me too much. It is pretty consistent that around 20% of the population are always eager to tell pollsters that they believe the most outrageous things about a sitting President. Of course the percentage goes much higher when only the party out of power is questioned.

During the Bush administration 22% believed that Bush knew about the 9/11 attacks in advance. That rose to 35% of Democrats who believed he had advance knowledge of the attack and an astonishing 61% of Democrats who believed he did have advance knowledge or did not know if he had advanced knowledge.

If anything, this poll is a reason for cautious optimism. It means the ignorant/looney opposition under Obama represents a similar percentage of the population to the ignorant/looney opposition under Bush.

  2. What bothers me is that when you add up the loons on the left and right, you're starting to get up around the 50% figure. That's rather scary.

  3. 20% of the American people also believe in the existence of Sasquatch! ha! Maybe that 24% got confused b/c his middle name is Hussein? Or, it could be just like you said, they're idiots.

  4. Mainstream America always reigns in the extremes. Has always been that way. I just hope that never changes. Worrisome is the topic of my comment above: When you add up some of these percentages who appear to be on the two extremes, you're starting to approach 50%. That does scare me. It really does.
